The Traditional Art of Wearing a Salwar Kameez

Living in most places in the world, there is a good chance that you might not have heard of Salwar Kameez. However, if you live in the Indian subcontinent then you are probably aware of what a Salwar Kameez is. A Salwar Kameez is a traditional outfit in many parts of the Indian subcontinent. You might see people wearing salwar kameez more than you see people wearing jeans or T-shirts.

Salwar Kameez, like any other clothing equipment, comes in a variety of colors and designs for both men and women. It is essentially an elongated shirt that can come with or without a collar. In place of trousers, you have a loosely fit baggy salwar. The outfit goes in line with the cultural and religious beliefs of the region. For many people in these areas, Salwar Kameez is considered one of the more modest pieces of clothing. People seen wearing it are considered to be more traditional or in line with the traditions of the people.

Another commonality of the salwar kameez is its link to religion. In Islamic cultures, people usually dress up to celebrate Fridays as the holy day of the week. So, in the Islamic countries of the Subcontinent, it is common to see people wear salwar kameez every Friday. They might wear it to the mosque when they go to pray when they visit their relatives or friends, and if the office norms allow it then it won’t be unusual to see people wear salwar kameez to work. The outfit might not be expected where you live, but if you have an interest in exploring cultures or simply like the outfit, then it would be a good idea to keep a couple of salwar kameez in your closet for whenever you feel like wearing something more ethnic.
