Essential Baking Tools
Whether you are a beginner baker or an experienced pastry chef, having the right tools for any baking project can save time and ensure that your delicious creations turn out perfectly every time. From measuring cups to rolling pins and more, it is important to know what essential baking tools are necessary before starting your next creation. With that in mind, here are some must-haves for successful baking projects. A rolling pin is most useful for rolling out pie crusts, cookie dough, and puff pastry, but there are other ways to use this tool in the kitchen. For example, if you do not have a food processor and need to crumble a recipe for cookies, chips, or crackers, place them in an airtight bag and then roll them out with a rolling pin.
Baking requires precision, so have a complete set of measuring spoons and cups close at hand. Do not think you can’t get away with just one type of measuring cup. You will need dry and wet measuring cups to measure all ingredients accurately. You will always use these tools, so keep them in an easily accessible place. Most measuring spoon sets include tablespoons, teaspoons, ½ teaspoons, and ¼ teaspoons, and most measuring cups come in 1-cup, ½-cup, ⅓-cup, and ¼-cup sets. Liquid measuring cups are available in 1-cup sizes, but keeping 2- and 4-cup cups in your cupboard is also convenient.
For bakers, a mesh sieve is more helpful in sifting dry ingredients or dusting the finished cake pan or cookies with powdered sugar. This baking equipment is also helpful in draining wet ingredients (especially small items like quinoa that pass through a regular sieve) and removing seeds from certain sauces. Lastly, a regular baking tray or pan is an absolute necessity. You can use it for many things, such as cakes, pies, and cookies, and of course, there are savory uses as well.
